![]() ![]() He is so blind he can barely eat and cannot tell the difference between mashed potatoes and rice on his dinner plate, yet when his libido kicks in he can see juice running down the heroines chin when he feeds her a strawberry. The hero is suppose to be almost totally blind (strange concept), yet he can see to fight. Maybe if this book was marketed as a spoof of the genre I would not have been so disappointed, at least I would have been prepared for the corny writing. ![]() The interaction between the ultra alphamale characters is so cheesetastically written, I actually laughed aloud. Although the BDB are hundreds years old, plenty of time to sound intelligent and cultured, they converse as if they learned how to speak from listening to rap music (dig my brotha?). The dialogue is juvenile to say the least. ![]() Based on the plethora of rave reviews, imagine my surprise when I found myself HATING this book. To say I was excited to listen to this book is an understatement. ![]() ![]() Mystery, adventure, and beautiful writing combine in this exciting debut richly set in a hotel full of secrets. It’s not long before she locates a magical book of puzzles that will unlock a mystery involving Norbridge and his sinister family. Upon arrival, Elizabeth quickly discovers that Winterhouse has many charms―most notably its massive library. ![]() ![]() Orphan Elizabeth Somers’s malevolent aunt and uncle ship her off to the ominous Winterhouse Hotel, owned by the peculiar Norbridge Falls. From Goodreads:An enchanting urban fantasy middle-grade debut―the first book in a trilogy―set in a magical hotel full of secrets. ![]() ![]() ![]() With the exception of Ace and Nova, the others are very bland sidekicks who don't seem to know what they are fighting for. To put it bluntly, I don't find the Anarchists to be very compelling characters. If heroes are the creators of it, doesn't that make it automatically good? Or will we see their fall into becoming the true villains? I'd love to get more of a debate going between Nova and the Renegades in the next book the reaction to the chemical was a bit too passive to be believable. Nova is passionate in her opinions, while Adrian has a harder time deciding what he thinks is right or wrong. ![]() Meyer's once again provides no easy "right or wrong" choices to be had in this series with the introduction of Agent N, the books major ethical dilemma is around who can be trusted with this and when should it be used. I loved the first book, Renegades (book review here), and was more than excited to jump back into Galton City and find out what comes next for Nova and Adrian. The Lunar Chronicles is such a great series and one that I often recommend to others, so I was very ready to fall in love with another Marissa Meyer's series. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As a Work of the United States Government, this image or media is in the public domain in the United States.
